Law Annual Fund

Contributions to the Law Annual Fund provide support through student scholarships, experiential education initiatives, summer grants and faculty excellence.

The Law Annual Fund is a vital source of support for UNC School of Law. It bolsters such critical areas as faculty excellence, summer grants for students working in the public interest sector, new educational and experiential initiatives and student scholarships.

The Law Annual Fund is an expendable fund. While an endowed fund generates interest that provides perpetual income toward a given purpose, such as scholarships or professorships, an expendable fund is spent in full each fiscal year (July 1-June 30). That means gifts to the Law Annual Fund go to work immediately, and each fiscal year, the generosity of alumni and friends ensures that the school’s most pressing needs are met.

Last June, alumni and friends of Carolina Law set a record: for the first time ever, the Law Annual Fund surpassed $1 million in gifts. The milestone was significant; the impact was life-changing for the 53 students who benefited from Law Annual Fund scholarships, with an average award amount of $7,104, in the 2016-17 academic year.

This year, the Law Annual Fund goal is $1.2 million. Our goals for our students are even greater: to provide an exceptional, accessible education, led by leading legal scholars and strengthened by the opportunities that foster leadership. Make a difference in the 2017-18 academic year for the next generation of Tar Heel lawyers by making a gift to the Law Annual Fund by June 30, 2017.
